Freek finished his BSc and MSc degrees in the Netherlands before coming to Vancouver for his PhD in mathematical biology. His research focuses on the genetic manipulation of populations using CRISPR-based gene drives. His interests include riding most 2-wheeled vehicles like bikes and motorcycles, and many other outdoor activities.
