Shunji Matsuura

Senior Staff Research Scientist

Shunji obtained his masters degree in cosmology and astrophysics from the University of Tokyo, and his PhD in string theory from the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the University of Tokyo.

Previously, he was a member of the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (University of California, Santa Barbara), McGill University, Riken, the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics (Kyoto Univeristy), and the Niels Bohr Institute (University of Copenhagen).

Shunji’s current research focuses on the fundamental aspects of quantum-enhanced optimization, such as error correction and speedup. Outside of work, he spends most of his time exploring cities with his family.
