Quantum Error Correction Scientist

Location: Fully remote | Full-Time

Your Role

1QBit is looking for an expert in the field of quantum error correction (QEC) to work on theoretical and experimental aspects of fault-tolerant quantum computing. Our Research and Development team is looking for high-calibre scientists who are excited to contribute to the development of emerging technologies that will enable scalable and applicable quantum computing.

This position offers remote working within Canada. Salary commensurate with experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Work alongside peers with unique and creative backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics, operations research, and engineering
  • Constantly learn through your work as well as active engagement with the academic community
  • Design and analyze quantum error correction codes for various physical realizations of quantum hardware
  • Implement numerical experiments to benchmark the performance of quantum error correction codes in realistic settings
  • Perform simulations of realistic quantum hardware noise models and conduct benchmarking studies of their impacts on the performance of various fault-tolerant quantum computing protocols

    What You’ll Bring

    • A PhD in computer science, physics or mathematics, with a strong educational focus on quantum error correction and/or fault-tolerant quantum computation methods
    • A strong research track record in the fields of quantum error correction codes and/or fault-tolerant quantum computing, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or top-tier conference presentations
    • Very good knowledge of concepts and methods of topological quantum error correction codes (e.g., surface codes and color codes), stabilizer formalism and lattice surgery
    • Research experience with quantum low-density parity-check codes (qLDPC codes) would be a strong asset
    • Familiarity with decoders and decoding algorithms for quantum error correction
    • Experience with Unix/Linux and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++, Julia)
    • Ability to work well with others towards a common goal
    • Research independence: the ability to take responsibility and initiative to conduct your research as it is required in working towards the common goal

      Nice-to-Haves

Familiarity with any of the following research topics would be beneficial:

      • Quantum algorithms and common techniques therein (e.g., quantum phase estimation, quantum amplitude amplifications, quantum Fourier transformation)
      • Quantum channels and quantum noise models
      • Resource estimation and error analysis in quantum algorithms
      • Computational complexity, design and asymptotic analysis of algorithms
      • Optimization and machine learning algorithm
