Pooja Pandey works to solve the world’s most challenging optimization problems in energy, finance, and health care, using the power of advanced and quantum computing.
Gili Rosenberg’s Journey: From Cycling across Central America to Solving Optimization Problems at 1QBit
Gili Rosenberg graduated from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev with an undergraduate degree in Physics and went on to earn his Ph.D. in Physics from UBC. After graduation, Gili cycled across Central America and, upon returning to Vancouver, he spent the summer hiking and biking, volunteering as a pick leader with the Vancouver Fruit Tree Project, and networking. This led to a serendipitous meeting with 1QBit’s founders, and shortly thereafter Gili became one of 1QBit’s first team members.
Shengru Ren’s Unexpected Career in Quantum Computing
Shengru Ren credits her background in engineering for steering her to develop her pragmatic side, but her outspoken personality is all her own. Never shying away from addressing things she does not agree with, Shengru’s willingness to bring her unique perspective to the table has been one of her most valuable attributes at 1QBit, where she works in the position of Lead, Research in the Hardware Innovation Lab. Her pragmatic approach ensures that she can set realistic goals and create products that work as intended.
Clemens Adolphs’s Journey from Intern to Tackling Quantum Computing’s Most Challenging Problems
Clemens Adolphs first realized his passion for quantum computing back in Germany while studying physics in high school. This experience influenced him to enroll in Germany’s RWTH Aachen University of Technology in physics and computer science programs. He remained in both programs until he completed his master’s degrees in both disciplines.
Right Time, Right Place, Right Team: Dr. Elisabetta Valiante Shares about Her Current Work at 1QBit
After her PhD, Elisabetta Valiante spent several years working in a university environment, conducting research in astronomy, but something was missing. Progress in astronomy can take a very long time before having an impact in everyday life, and Elisabetta wanted to do something that would have practical applications earlier.
Andrew Milne, from Physics to Fintech
Andrew Milne immigrated from England to Canada as a child. He grew up partly in Toronto and partly in Vancouver. He began his studies in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University but later transferred to the University of British Columbia (UBC) to obtain his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Kyle Mills’s Journey from Ph.D. Student to Being on the Cover of Nature Machine Intelligence
1QBit scientist Kyle Mills’s research was recently featured in the September issue of Nature Machine Intelligence. The research discovered new ways to use reinforcement learning to find the ground states of spin Hamiltonians. Kyle worked with Pooya Ronagh, Head of the Hardware Innovation Lab at 1QBit, and Isaac Tamblyn from the National Research Council of Canada.
